2.1 windows .msi installer fails on runtime install

Bug Description

It has been reported by at least one user that the new installer with .msi fails when it tries to install the microsoft VC 2015 runtimes.

The installer works if the runtimes are installed manually before installing Mixxx.

I've looked a bit on internet, and it seems that the reason of the failure is that it cannot install an .msi from within an .msi.

It seems there is a workaround to that, which is defining the runtimes as some prerequisite, and that way they can be installed before the actuall installer starts.

This explains it a bit (it's not VC runtimes, but should give some guidelines and seems that there are some exmaples).

I have no experience with .msi installers, so I'm not sure if this article is of use or not.

Thanks for your report. We already have bug 1663380 to track this issue so i'm marking this one as duplicate.
I hope to have some time in the next weeks to work on it.
The solution is probably to use VC++ redistributable Merge Module
