Bug Description

Users who do not use an external mixer do not need to set outputs for each deck. Always displaying the interface to set those outputs in the preferences is confusing because it implies to new users that they should be set. I remember myself being confused about that when I first opened Mixxx and I had to refer to the manual to understand how to configure my sound outputs. Also, the Sound Hardware section of the preferences dialogue is growing large vertically. A solution to both these problems could be a checkbox for "Use external mixer" above the Master output configuration that would show the deck 1-4 settings.

What are the new left/center/right bus settings for? Should those be hideable as well?

Yes they are also only required if you use an external Mixer. They contain the samples of sources according to their mixer orientation.

we could have the most common outputs (main, headphones) visible, and then a twirl-down for the others (show more...)

I would not want yet another option as you describe. Let's use user interface widgets rather than new preferences.
