Bug Description

There are a handful of DJ programs for Android or iOS, but none of them are free software. It would be awesome to run Mixxx on Android devices. Would these devices be powerful enough to run Mixxx well? How much would have to change in Mixxx for this to work?

Indeed -- that's in the cards :).

Essentially, the entire UI would need a re-think but the core / processing code is all intentionally written to remain portable. Qt was the big blocker for this but with the Lighthouse project it is now available on iOS and Android.

I'd be interested in helping to port mixxx to android. Any chance that in the fdroid there would be an application similar to mixxx in it's dependency that we can use for inspiration to start porting mixxx to android ? For another projet I found useful information in https://gitlab.com/fdroid/fdroiddata/tree/master and looking at the build scripts for some projets.

Thank you for offering to help. However, we are still very far (likely years) away from being able to get started with this. As a start, we need to completely redesign the GUI with touch screens in mind. Touch screens are fairly common on laptops now, so even doing that without porting to Android would be worthwhile.

Also, AFAIK audio latency on Android is still awful. I have wondered if it is possible to work around this with by accessing ALSA directly instead of going through Android's audio system, but I don't know.
