I know of one startup race that manifested itself when I switched to NBS in the acceptance tests that I've fixed. Its difficult to tell if that branch will fix this particular failure though (since I've not been able to reproduce the bug)

I believe it was/is a shutdown race between removing everything including the graphics platform while the dummy graphics platform still holds a global display shared_ptr..
