Doesn't upgrade to 1.6

I would like to update to 1.6 but even forcing an update it does not do anything.

I made the same observation as the previous poster. Additionally I deinstalled minecraft-installer and reinstalled it, this just "broke" everything. No working minecraft anymore.

It works if you scrub the .minecraft folder and then reinstall the minecraft installer.
