Bug Description

Hello!
I have noticed that Midori tends to load web-pages and activate the elements on a page (like search files, buttons, etc) very very slowly. It also consumes a lot of CPU time during these actions (~80-90%), which makes it very uncomfortable to use.

I seems to have appeared a couple of releases ago (somewhere around version 0.4.4, but I'm not sure). Before that Midori used to work much faster.

I thought it was a Webkit problem, and installed another Webkit-GTK-based browser - xxxterm. It works much faster than Midori, despite using the same Webkit engine for the same web pages.

I also tried to build Midori for GTK2 (I usually use GTK3 now), but the situation is just about the same.

It sounds a little like bug 902594 except you say it's the same with GTK+2 and 3.

Could you try if "midori -a about:blank" or "midori -p" suffers in the same way?

Hello!
Both of the modes you suggested work fast and do not consume so much CPU time (not more than 30% during page loading)!
With GTK3 currently.

Please excuse me for posting a non-informative post, but I'm curious about whether my test helped in resolving this issue or not?
I could perform some more tests if needed. The slowness of Midori right now is just killing me. :( That's why I'd like to do my best to help in resolving it as fast as possible.

Thank you.

Could your issue be related to Bug #979688? Does it help if you disable scripts?

No, it doesn't help. Of course, JavaScript adds some additional CPU usage, but you can easily browse the http://www.economist.com pages that you mentioned in that bugreport if you start Midori this way:

midori -a http://www.economist.com

So, it seems to be a separate problem, since it depends not on JavsScript on/off, but on the mode Midori was started in. Which is strange.

Midori 0.4.8 still has this issue.

That's ok to merge the bugreports if no information is lost on the way.
I would like to ask you to put some "a bit higher" priority for this bug, since it actually prevents me from using Midori for several months. It renders so slowly and consumes so much CPU that I just cannot use it for my everyday needs.

Thank you.
