Bug Description

The latest version of MadGraph (MG5_aMC_v2.6.4) appears to write unreadable HepMC files that give the following error when read into Rivet (2.6.1):

Rivet 2.6.1-pre running on machine lxplus061.cern.ch (x86_64) at 2018-12-04 17:07:44
streaming input: end of stream found setting badbit.
Could not read from '/afs/cern.ch/work/j/jhowarth/private/13TeV/MadGraph/MG5_aMC_v2_6_4/ttZ_NLO/Events/run_05/events_HERWIG6_0.hep.gz' (error=basic_ios::clear)

Events produced with an identical process and cards for MG5_aMC_v2_6_3_X series do not produce the same error. The HepMC version I'm using in MG5_aMC_v2.6.4 is the out-of-the-box one.

Cheers,

Jay

p.s. a version of this HepMC file is in my public area here: /afs/cern.ch/work/j/jhowarth/public/events_HERWIG6_0.hep.gz

As a further curiosity, using madspin for the decays somehow produces readable HepMC files?

Dear Jay,
are you using Herwig6 or Herwig++/Herwig7?
The name of your files seems to suggest the former.
For Herwig6 there is no HepMC file, rather StdHEP,
which is not human readable, and probably not
supported by Rivet.
Let me know.
Cheers.
