Bug Description

HepMC installation is failing under MG5_aMC_v2_5_2

Specifically I get the output:

Downloading the HEPToolInstaller at:
   http://madgraph.physics.illinois.edu/Downloads/HEPToolsInstaller/HEPToolsInstaller_V86.tar.gz
Now installing zlib. Be patient...
% Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current
Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed
  0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 --:--:-- 0:01:14 --:--:-- 0curl: (7) Failed to connect to madgraph.phys.ucl.ac.be port 80: Operation timed out
Could not download data at '/private/var/folders/s2/1bfhbj416b5g7jdczh_80m100000gn/T/tmpyjLarH/zlib-1.2.10.tar.gz'.
Command "install zlib " interrupted in sub-command:
"install zlib" with error:
InvalidCmd : Installation of zlib failed.

actually, http://madgraph.phys.ucl.ac.be/Downloads section is not reachable, so better to put another link like http://zlib.net/zlib-1.2.11.tar.gz

ciao

Hi,

The server on which we try to load the zlib library is currently down.
We can only wait for the moment (it is down since yesterday).
I assign this to Valentin, such that he can think to use mirroring option for that part of the installation tools. Most of the part are actually already mirrored to avoid such kind of problem.

CHeers,

Olivier

Ok, so it is no quite true that the only thing you can do for now is wait,
because you can always specify the tarball from which you want to install
the tool using the option '
--<tool_name>_tarball=<local_or_online_tarball_path>' to the install
command:

For example, in this case you could specify the following path for legacy
zlib versions:

install zlib --zlib_tarball=http://www.zlib.net/fossils/zlib-1.2.10.tar.gz

Overwriting the default path pointing to our servers.

In the past I was using the official zlib tarball but I had to change it
because they do not have a sticky link and are often updating their most
recent versions.
Now that I realize that they have a "fossil" webpage for old version, I
should use this one as it should be stable, so I will do it for the next
update of the HEPToolsInstaller.

Thanks for pointing this out.
Regarding the mirroring Olivier mentioned, he is right that it is both
ideal and not too difficult to implement, so I'll hopefully find the time
to implement it before the next release for the dependency for which there
is several mirrored sources.
