Bug Description
Hi all,
I've tried to produce Z + jets events but, after the 'launch' command, I got this error:

I'm generating Z + jets events according to the following instructions:
- import model sm-no_b_mass
- define p = p b b~
- define j = p
- import model loop_sm-no_b_mass
- generate p p > l+ l- [QCD] @0
- add process p p > l+ l- j [QCD] @1
- add process p p > l+ l- j j [QCD] @2
What have I to do?
Cheers,
Francesco

Ciao Marco,
unfortunately ‘ajob8’ is not a directory so I cannot find the log files.
Anyway, in attachment you can find the run and param cards.

I tried to run the Z + jets analysis another time using the 2.2.3 and I got this error, just before the end of setting the output:

In attachment you can find the aMC@NLO input card (the same I've used for both the versions 2.2.1 and 2.2.2, with the one I've never get an error like that).
What have I to do?

As regards the p p > z [QCD] process, is it the same if I try:

(because I have to test the FxFx merging procedure...)

Ciao Francesco,
I understand that you want to do FxFx, but let us start first with just
p p > z [QCD]
to see if the problem you have is a general configuration problem or if it
is related to FxFx...
Let me know if p p > z [QCD] works fine.

Ok, thanks for the check.
Can you recall me the version of the code you are using? We found a bug
that can affect FxFx in 2.2.2 and it has been fixed in 2.2.3 (not released
yet)
now, what happens if you do
generate p p > z [QCD]
add process p p > z j [QCD]

I’m using the version 2.2.3 (I’ve downloaded it via 'bzr branch lp:~maddevelopers/mg5amcnlo/2.2.3’)
I’ll try the FxFx merging up to 1 jets and I’ll let you know what happen.

Ciao Francesco,
can you please tell me what you get in a shell if you type
g++ --version
c++ --version
clang --version
Then, open the file madgraph/
go at line 1490, it should be at the beginning of the
replace_
and put a
print 'COMPILER', compiler
line, with the same indentation as the following line which should be
p = misc.Popen(
then can you try to re-generate the process and tell me what you get at the

folder you have exported and type
./bin/generate_
to see if it works...

What do you mean with " run from the folder you have exported, ‘ignoring’

On the webpage you linked me, I saw that the gfortran version in the
example is the 4.7, while I'm using the 4.8.1... Could it be the problem?

Ciao Francesco,
this seems very strange, as the Cannot allocate memory error comes from
python checking g++ — version, which you told me works from command line…
can you try nevertheless to run from the folder you have exported,
‘ignoring’ the error?
then, on lxplus, have you configured your OS variables as suggested here?

Ciao FrancescoCiao ,
how much memory does your machine have?
with 2.2.3 if z+0j and z+1j works fine, while z+2j does not, it may well be a memory problem (plus the ‘Cannot allocate memory’ error).
Can you monitor the RAM usage when one generates z+2j merged sample and let me know how much of it is used?

Ok,

Also googling the error you get is not of much help…
Try this:
Open the file madgraph/
and comment these
p = misc.Popen(
output, error = p.communicate()
is_clang = 'LLVM' in output
and add
is_clang = False
in place of the last line.
What happens if you now try to re-export your process?
