Hi Paolo,

I tried your patch at MG version 2.1.1 and it worked -- no error 
messages. Although the answer is slightly different from what I get with 
PYTHIA6Q showering: Pyhtia gave 8903 ± 61 
<cid:<email address hidden>> pb, while HERWIG6 with 
your patch returned 8780 ± 63 
<cid:<email address hidden>> pb. Is this a reasonable 
spread?

Then I upgraded MG to 2.1.2. Using PYTHIA6Q for showering worked ok, but 
the result is 9026 ± 58 <cid:<email address hidden>> 
pb, which is different from the previous one. I guess this is because 
2.1.2 version is using a different PDF set as default.
When I tried to use HERWIG6 it failed and using your quick patch did not 
help. In both cases I got the following error message

I think something is not working correctly for Herwig installation on 
Fedora. Unfortunately I cannot test it on other platforms.
