Bug Description

Dear MG team,

I have encountered a problem with three-body decays and the ./bin/generate_events procedure as follows. After having copied the template directory into a new one, I tried to generate a new process for the three body decay n2 > n1 z z in the mssm. The ./bin/new_process command is successful; I then run ./bin/generate_events with the default param_card.dat (which comes with the madgraph version) and everything is fine.
When I change the param_card.dat and run a second time the ./bin/generate_events it does not work anymore and I get the errors reported in the run_02_tag_1_debug.log and below.

The difference between the first and second param card is just a number: I changed the neutralino 2 mass from 189 GeV to 589 GeV. I have run into this problem in every process that involves a three-body decay, not matter what is the process in question. The first run with a param_card.dat works always, and as well a second or third runs without modifying the param_card.dat. As soon as this file is modified the generation of events does not work anymore.

Title:
 three-body decay problem with param_card

Status in The MadGraph Matrix Element Generator version 5:
 New

Bug description:
 Dear MG team,

 I have encountered a problem with three-body decays and the ./bin/generate_events procedure as follows. After having copied the template directory into a new one, I tried to generate a new process for the three body decay n2 > n1 z z in the mssm. The ./bin/new_process command is successful; I then run ./bin/generate_events with the default param_card.dat (which comes with the madgraph version) and everything is fine.
 When I change the param_card.dat and run a second time the ./bin/generate_events it does not work anymore and I get the errors reported in the run_02_tag_1_debug.log and below.

 The difference between the first and second param card is just a
 number: I changed the neutralino 2 mass from 189 GeV to 589 GeV. I
 have run into this problem in every process that involves a three-body
 decay, not matter what is the process in question. The first run with
 a param_card.dat works always, and as well a second or third runs
 without modifying the param_card.dat. As soon as this file is modified
 the generation of events does not work anymore.

Dear Chiara,

Ok now I see what happened. You first run with a parameter card without valid configurations, then with valid configurations. Thanks a lot for reporting this, it's quite an annoying bug. We will fix it in v. 1.5.11. For now, just avoid doing this. :-)

Dear Johan,

ok, no problem, it happens only when I use the three body decays and it does not affect productions processes etc… so yes, I will avoid doing this !

 three-body decay problem with param_card

Status in The MadGraph Matrix Element Generator version 5:

Bug description:
 Dear MG team,

 I have encountered a problem with three-body decays and the ./bin/generate_events procedure as follows. After having copied the template directory into a new one, I tried to generate a new process for the three body decay n2 > n1 z z in the mssm. The ./bin/new_process command is successful; I then run ./bin/generate_events with the default param_card.dat (which comes with the madgraph version) and everything is fine.
 When I change the param_card.dat and run a second time the ./bin/generate_events it does not work anymore and I get the errors reported in the run_02_tag_1_debug.log and below.

 The difference between the first and second param card is just a
 number: I changed the neutralino 2 mass from 189 GeV to 589 GeV. I
 have run into this problem in every process that involves a three-body
 decay, not matter what is the process in question. The first run with
 a param_card.dat works always, and as well a second or third runs
 without modifying the param_card.dat. As soon as this file is modified
 the generation of events does not work anymore.
