Bug Description

Hi,

I have installed the googleearth package from medibuntu on jaunty x64.

All the panoramio images are just blue squares, no image is shown, if I click on the blue square, the pop up opens but I have a square with a ? instead of images.

I have tried also on another computer with a fresh jaunty x64 beta install, exactly the same problem happens.

I have tried to launch googleearh in a terminal but I didn't find any error messages.

$ dpkg -l | grep googleearth
ii googleearth 5.0.11337.1968-0medibuntu7 Google Earth - binary files
ii googleearth-data 5.0.11337.1968-0medibuntu7 Google Earth - data files

Thank you

Hi,

I have the same problem here with the x64 beta of Jaunty.

According to this thread:

http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=67354

it is a problem with the qt-libraries no longer included in the googleearth-package. I resolved it by puting this into my /usr/share/googleearth/qt.conf:

/code
[Paths]
Documentation=/usr/share/doc
Libraries=/usr/lib32
Plugins=/usr/lib32/qt4/plugins
Translations=/usr/share/qt4/translations
/code

All the best

The sudo command above worked great for me cheers. There's a thread running on the Jaunty forums about this problem and Google Street view not working (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1139194&highlight=google+earth+street+view).

Would the Medibuntu devs prefer a separate bug report for the Street View problem, or keep everything lumped in here? I'm a bit cautious of pointing the finger at Medibuntu the first time there's a problem with something. (After all, it's a packaging and distributing service. If the 3rd party software is buggy to start with, there's probably not a great deal you can do about it, right?)

Also patched qt.conf with link it to /usr/lib32/googleearth/qt.conf works!

No worries I will do, once I can think of a better way to describe the Street View problem other than just "weird" :)

Btw - the latest Medibuntu GE release doesn't have broken Panoramio pictures here. Unfortunately I'd already fixed it before tonight's release, so I'm probably not best placed to comment.

Completely removing qt.conf does not work on my 64-bit Jaunty system!
@Lionel: The update fix broke my manual patch!

I have to replace the contents of /usr/share/googleearth/qt.conf with this (as described above):

[Paths]
Documentation=/usr/share/doc
Libraries=/usr/lib32
Plugins=/usr/lib32/qt4/plugins
Translations=/usr/share/qt4/translations

And then create a symbolic link:

cd /usr/lib32/googleearth
sudo ln -s ../../share/googleearth/qt.conf qt.conf

And then it works.

Just installed googleearth 5 on jaunty x64. Same problem. No photos, only blank blue squares with a question mark in them. I have checked in /usr/share/googleearth/ and now the qt.conf file cannot be found. So no qt.conf file to remove or modify. I'm left scratching my head. Help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

@hounddog: Removing qt.conf only works on 32-bit systems. For 64-bit systems you have to do what I wrote in the comment just above yours.

Re-opening this bug because the current fix (removing qt.conf) only works for 32-bit systems. For making it work on 64-bit systems, see my comment above.

Uploaded to jaunty-staging, with the correct fix this time (hopefully).

If you want to test, you can add:
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ jaunty-staging free non-free
to your /etc/apt/sources.list.

Thanks.

I noticed it too on my 64-bit system, but re-creating the link as I described in comment #11 above made it work again.

Ok it works again.
But i have to remove the old link in /usr/share/googleearth/ before (rm qt.conf).
Thanks.

There is a typo in the /usr/lib32/googleearth/qt.conf included in the updated package:

The first line reads now:

[PATH]

but it has to be

[PATHS]

Without the plural it just don't work!
