Bug Description

Google Earth can not be purged from Synaptic due to a bug in the postrm script. I managed to purge it by editing /var/lib/dpkg/info/googleearth-4.3 and commenting out the commands regarding sourcing /usr/share/debconf/confmodule. I've attached a copy of the edited postrm script.

Hi,

Thanks for your bug report.

I can't really reproduce this issue unfortunately.

Could you revert back to the pristine postrm script, replace "set -e" by "set -x" at the beginning, purge googleearth-4.3 (with a command like: "sudo apt-get remove --purge googleearth-4.3"), and attach the console output here?

Changed in medibuntu:
assignee: nobody → mrpouit
status: New → Incomplete

It seems you have a package that registered unknown mimetypes:

That's why debconf fails (as explained on http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2008/10/msg00790.html).
You should be able to purge googleearth-4.3 by removing this package first.

You can also try to replace:
        update-mime-database /usr/share/mime
with:
        update-mime-database /usr/share/mime >/dev/null 2>&1
And I suppose googleearth-4.3 will purge successfully after that.
