I'm curious how the mediascanner is setup to do thumbnailing. Does it seek a certain static amount of time into the movie to capture a frame, or does it take the first frame (I wouldn't guess it'd do this)?

Omer, are you that it didn't just catch a black frame by random chance? I know the mediaplayer-app's scene preview thumbnailing has support to detect and skip purely black (and I think white) frames.

Jim, I reflashed and pasted the same video file again and again the problem happened. as I said I think since the video is not fully copied and mediascanner tries to add the thumbnail all it gets is a black thumbnail.

Omer, I would expect the same result. But what I want to make sure of, is that the thumbnailer isn't just selecting what is always a black frame in the video. Can you make sure of that? To do that, you need to see how far into the video the thumbnailer seeks before selecting a single frame to decode and use.
