how did you test this? I tried copying this to the device using mtp and it does not show under the video scope. If this was played in the browser, that does not use media-hub.

You can play it from the filemanager for example, or directly with mediaplayer-app from CLI.

Does this video play for you on the desktop using Totem? One other thing to try, does this video play for you on Krillin with Android loaded on it?

This is still the case - see the bug duped here which has an mp4

For these videos the mediascanner fails to process them the first time but they do show in the scope on a reboot (which seems a separate issue) The following is reported in mediascanner and media-hub logs:

[Err, h264_dec_init] Fail to open Vdec Drv H264 instance! -11
[Err] Error code -10
[Err, h264_dec_deInit] Invalid input argument
[Err] Error code -1
Error when adding new file: Unable to discover file /home/phablet/Videos/H264_500_AAC_128.3gp

The media-hub-server may or may not show up in top using 100% cpu but the symptom is the same, the phone is alive but extremely sluggish and appears frozen. Killing the server process restores normal conditions.

I submitted bug #1421797, if the unsupported video did not show up in the scope this hang would be far less likely to be hit by a user.
