G-Mail "off-line" mode

The G-Mail webapp should cache the HTML pages to the local machine in the background.

When no network connection is available, allow the user to enter "off-line" mode, where the pages are loaded from the local machine, and some links are disabled with an "off-line" alert box.

The plan initially is only to allow the user to read mail in off-line mode, this will make the mechanism simpler. If a third-party utility is available for this, then it should be preferred over creating a new mechanism. Google Gears might be another option.
