Hi Friedrich,

You probably upgrade from an older version so you have to manually delete
the old database. I know it's in your home directory and hidden something
like /home/yourusername/.me-tv . I'll check when I get home and get back to
you.

Cheers,
Frédéric Côté

Thanks for the reply.
I did this before. Deleted the me-tv2.db in home/.local/share/me-tv. After a new start, is creates a new database and ends only with the communication failure. After a second start the complete message like above appears.

I have the same problem using Me TV 1.4 from bzr:

I deleted the database in ~/.local/share/me-tv and started "me-tv-client".
A popup says "Failed to communicate with Me TV server. Would you like the Me TV client to attempt to start it?
After clicking "OK" Me TV creates a database file but ends with the error message "Exception: Failed to communicate with Me TV server" in terminal.

Starting "me-tv-server" without the client works and it creates a database file. Starting the client with "me-tv-server" running results in the popup described above, followed by the following error message in terminal:
2012-01-31 09:48:06: Me TV Server 1.4.0.4 started
2012-01-31 09:48:06: An unhandled exception was generated
2012-01-31 09:48:06: Error: The Me TV database version does not match the Me TV server version.
31.01.2012 09:48:11: Exception: Failed to communicate with Me TV server

This bug is next in my to-do list. I expect to fix it during the next few
weeks.

I've made some minor change in rev 1.4.0.8 (the daily build should pickup the change) regarding this issue. I would like to know if you still have this bug with this version.

Before trying it, make sure you don't have me-tv (client/server) running (ps -A | grep me-tv)
Then, delete the folder ~/.local/share/me-tv and everything in it (you can also move it somewhere else)

To help me a little, If possible, the first time you start me-tv, do it with this command: "me-tv-client -v > me-tv.log" (without quote)

If you still have this bug, send me these two files: me-tv.log (that you've created with the command bellow) and ~/.local/share/me-tv/me-tv.db
if you don't have this bug anymore, I also would like to know.

I'am not able to reproduce this behaviour at home, so I'm working blind...

Cheers, Frederic

Can you try it with the PPA ? and make sure you have the last version (1.4.0-0~27~oneiric1 or 1.4.0-0~27~precise1 at this time)

When you compile it yourself, you also have to do the "sudo make install" to make "me-tv-server" available in the path. When you just "make", the application is build ok but the "me-tv-client" don't have access to the bin "me-tv-server".

To remove it after a "sudo make install", you can do "sudo make uninstall" but you need the original folder from where you have compile it.

I tried 1.4.0-0-29. The application starts and showed the import channels.conf dialog. But I couldn't go to the next step. Clicking 'Next' does nothing.

Cheers.

Your "channels.conf" (the file you created with w_scan) must be in UTF8.
You can do it with the command "iconv -t UTF-8 file.name"

This is something else I will eventually fix.

Thanks,
Frederic
