elementary calendar rejects my google credentials

Bug Description

Trying to create a calendar synchronised with my Google calendar. I am prompted for my google credentials which do not appear to be acceptable to calendar although at the same time they are acceptable to google accessed by browser. Without google sync the elementary calendar is not fit for purpose.

After you've read the elementary OS Stack Exchange link, use the following workaround: enable 2FA in your Google account and use an App Password generated for you.
