I was unable to reproduce the opening of a second popover... Then again the popover should indeed close when you click anywhere else on the Maya window, but I'm guessing this is something that should be implemented in Granite?

The problem with this is that in DatePicker's current implementation the popover hides when it loses focus. So any attempt to click on the little calendar icon will first hide the popover (as the focus is lost) and then the click signal will be emitted, where the popover now will have visible == false when checked.
Other than the technical problem, this should be filed as a Granite bug instead, since it is there the DatePicker comes from.
