Bug Description
Bug lp:833702 fails with wrong empty result.
In addition the EXPLAIN for the test query changed to
"Impossible where" which indicates that constant substitution was
applied to subqueries. This is generally wrong in MariaDB 5.3 an on.
Suggestion: detect all subquery evaluations during optimization
by using sql_print_error.
