Bug Description
i'm trying to upstream patches which we carried from mysql-5.5
I would appreciate inclusion in maria/5.5
The idea is to have mysqld_safe script to have a --nowatch option, because systemd takes care of respawning after failure.

I have added the this patch to MariaDB 5.5, with the extension that we also allow the option to be written as --no-watch and --no-auto-restart.
Thanks for the patch
