Bug Description

Now users subscribed to a bug that is marked duplicated are incorporated to the other bug report as "Also notified", however, they cannot select "Unsubscribe" from that bug.

I guess one has to unsubscribe from the bug report that was marked as duplicated. Yet, this may be difficult if they are several duplicates and one is subscribed to many of them.

My case is that I cannot select unsubscribe from https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/libgnomeprint/+bug/34112

I agree. I think this is a critical bug. It should be possible to stop getting mail on any bug, from that bug's page (not wading through duplicates or otherwise.)

Colin, manu, and others: do you ever need to unsubscribe from bugs on things for which you are the bug contact, or where you're assigned to the bug, or is the problem limited to unsubscribing from bugs that you're getting mail about from being subscribed to one of the dupes?

I don't ever need/want to unsubscribe due to being the bug contact or the assignee, no. I can't speak for anyone else, but it seems to me like an unusual thing to want, and bug contacts / assignees should be more capable of using filtering and generally dealing with large amounts of mail than ordinary users filing bugs are expected to be.

I'm fine with solving this with smart UI that joes DTRT. I am not so happy with adding an Ignore sub, though.

The big trouble is that I can't find my duplicate bug under my own user.
How do I go about finding that bug?

I want to remove me from some reported bug, because I'm always receiving mail's. how to do that?

How about:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/vim/+bug/52539/+unsubscribe

Thanks!

For this specific case, you can just unsubscribe from this bug, a dupe:

https://launchpad.net/products/dapper-backports/+bug/57545

That should do it. It's a hackish workaround until this bug is
properly fixed.

I have to agree that this issue is quote annoying, I reported a few bug when Kubuntu 6.06 was released. I had then been indirectly subscribed to a number of bug reports that were in one form or another duplicates of the ones that I had submitted.

Whilest I welcome any updates on the status of the original bug, I don't like the fact the scope of email notification widens as more and more duplicates of the bugs are being reported (no points for guessing that the user base of distros are increasing all the time, and that duplicate bug reports will be created).

Wouldn't it make more sense to have one central point of subscription for a specific bug?

i.e.
Duplicate bug report identified:
1) Point duplicate bug report to original bug report (supposedly only one for each unique bug)
2) Transfer email subscription from duplicate to original bug report (read: 2 steps; create new subscriptions in the original report, delete subscriptions in the duplicate report).
3) Close off duplicate bug report (no more comments).

Although the last comments on this bug solves the effects of the bug, they do not solve the problem.

1. If the website knows that one is to be notified, shown in the "Also notified", it should also know why: subscribed to that bug, to the project or to duplicates.
Place a "unsubscribe" link there to linking to the correct place for unsubscribing.

2. The mail sent with each notification should contain reference to why it was sent and how to stop it. This can be done by either:
    - Text informing about the bug and instructions on how to unsubscribe
OR
    - Link to the bug(present today) together with nr. 1 above.

This must be at least as simple so unsubscribe as to subscribe. And consider that that you might not remember how you subscribed, it must be even simpler.

I just tried the "+subscribe" hack described in comment #21. I hope it works.

The bug filling my filtered mail queue was on xserver-xorg-video-intel, and I had no idea that even after unsubscribing to the bug I would get so much mail due to the "also notified" feature in Launchpad.

I don't know why Launchpad insists on "also notifying" me. If I subscribe to the bug, I should have the choice to receive mail or not. And if I don't subscribe, I really shouldn't be getting any mail at all.

I consider this a major Launchpad bug. There should be a way in the Launchpad interface to manage this flow of mail -- and to shut it off if desired.
