Bug Description

This is a feature request

Despite we can't import file from an iPad, because, there is no user files or folders access on iOS 5, we could nevertheless imagine a way to import file and further more improve access to personal documents to user regardless the platform they are using.

For example, in Moodle 2, it is also not possible to import directly a file from the iPad though, we can, through the file picker and the plugins access to repositories outside the iPad, such as DropBox or Boxnet.

Giving Mahara the ability, as Moodle, to access external repositories may improve the user experience in giving him access to their files regardless of the platform they are using.

The cloud plugin allows to connect a number of external repositories which can be used to select files for use in Mahara.

The cloud plugin is not working anymore with present version of Mahara (since 1.7 I think).

In the wish that eP users foster the ownership of their material, it would be interesting that Mahara can use files stored elsewhere (external repositories) such as DropBox or GDrive.

The idea is that Mahara will manage the metadata (keywords, description, etc.) and either keep an handle to the original file or let user to copy it into his/her personal files zone on Mahara.

Something close to what Moodle is doing to manage files in courses.

A few years ago I saw a demo of a plugin made by Discendum Oy (makers of OB Passport). Maybe it would be worth to contact them to see whether they agree to open the code and whether the features are worth to be added to core.

Hi Dajan,

Do you want to contact Discendum for that? I don't remember that they had done work in that area.

Gregor updated the cloud plugin and we are planning on fixing some high importance bugs in the plugin still this month for Mahara 16.04.

Cheers
Kristina
