Bug Description

Mahara 1.4.0 - any browser or OS.

Hi, sometimes I need to add a text box to a portfolio page and in the box somehwere link to an image or file from MY Files. I need to be able to browse my files and select the one I want to link to. At the moment the link and image button in the inline editor only let me put in a URL. (Meaning that, in order to link to a file I have in My Files, I need to go and get it's URL and then come back and return to editing, this process breaks my workflow.)

Cheers,
Shane.

Hi,

I have the same problem. In my opinion having the ability to easily add images to journal/blog postings to me seems to be a basic and fundamental function that should be available in Mahara. I actually expected this function to be available.

Just like in Moodle and Wordpress you can browse to your files and then select the appropriate image to the posting.

For us this means our students can easily add meaningful images to their journal postings which will compliment what they are writing about. Students may or may not even know what an Image URL is.

Many thanks for your consideration.

Possible solution for the Image editing problem:

http://www.tinymce.com/wiki.php/Configuration:file_browser_callback

This is the file_browser_callback for the file browser. We just change this so that it looks in Mahara's file directory instead of other file directories.

When the advanced Image plugin is used in the advanced TinyMCE mode there is a button for the file manager. That is the file_browser_callback that needs to be grabbed to be replaced with Mahara's file manger. The same would be true with the advanced link button. We would need to grab the file_browser_callback, so that a user's Mahara pages list is displayed.

Hi All,
At a recent workshop I helped two students through the process of embedding images in text boxes.
I wonder if anyone would like to revisit this wishlist item?

The images above show how students could select a local image from the image dialogue.
Even though they might have many images this could be a great start.

A folder dialogue showing only embeddable image types would be the ideal IMHO.

Thanks,
Shane.

Thanks.

Hi Shane,

The route we've been favoring is to replace the TinyMCE image button with our own custom TinyMCE plugin that ties into the artefact file picker.

See: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bug/1235569

On the other hand... that one isn't moving very fast, so maybe it would be a good idea to merge this one in as an interim solution. We've upgraded TinyMCE so it doesn't apply cleanly, but it doesn't look like a difficult conflict resolution.

Thanks Aaron, as you say it's a useful interim solution, resulting in fewer steps and a supported process.
Many thanks.
