Bug Description

When I close the lid of my laptop (without suspending it), the appletouch driver behaves mysteriously and I am not longer able to use the touchpad. The problem is solved when I unload and reload the appletouch driver. Here are the details:

Hardware: Macbook Core Duo (1st Gen)
OS: Ubuntu Intrepid (8.10)

Please let me know if you need more details

I also reported/commented on a couple of bugs yesterday -- but they were not tagged as Mactel. Should these bugs be switched over? Here are the relevant URLs.

They should not be switched, but generally, if it is a bug that affects only intel macs, it should have mactel-support added to the project list. That helps us keep track of bugs effecting this hardware. I updated the other bugs you mentioned. It is MORE important that an appropriate package is found to file the bug against, rather than just marking it against "Ubuntu". For instance, appletouch is a module in the Linux kernel, so I marked this against the "linux" package.

Thanks for the info. I have been using Ubuntu on both my Macbook and MacPro pretty regularly. If there is any help that is needed, I will be glad to provide it. I have plenty of programming experience -- I am just new to linux development.

Hi Prabhanjan,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 283251

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
