Contacted both the package maintainer (~mikael-sesamiq) and the apparent author/source of more recent updates (~detly) asking for clarification.

I no longer have the possibility to maintain this code, as i don't use Ubuntu and don't run Linux on Macbook anymore.

If someone wish to take over, i would be more than happy about it.

Regards,
Mike

I'm in contact with both the above commenter and the author of subsequent released code on github. This bug should come to a resolution soon as I'd like to fix the code for my iMac. :)

We're looking for a new maintainer for the code. I do no longer
maintain it. I hope we find someone who have the energy to continue
development.

I'm going to work toward an 0.8.x release integrating all changes (there are some from various authors) at https://gitlab.com/gordonmorehouse/macfanctld

Project management is publicly visible at https://www.pivotaltracker.com/n/projects/1330062

I'm working with a friend on this as a way to teach each other skills we respectively don't know, although of course anyone can participate. :)

Mikael, Gordon: I would like to help with development and packaging. I've read the code and it's not beyond my skills. I've also read the proposed patches in the open pull requests on GitHub, and have a fairly good idea of which commits should be merged into master, which ones shouldn't, and why.

I can work a few hours a week on macfanctld, which should be enough since macfanctld already works well and I'm not in favor of adding a collection of bells and whistles, as it only adds bugs. Some feature requests and proposed patches make sense though, see my comments to the currently open bugs on Launchpad.

Gordon, are you and your friend still able to help?

I've written some notes on the available versions and packages of macfanctld, to have a clear view on the state of the software: https://gist.github.com/nathanael-naeri/f77c578527bde9bb71c7. Could you both please have a look and add your comments? Please pay extra attention to the section about the two different 0.7 versions, since they each implement changes submitted in two different pull requests (and I'm pretty sure not all of them are desirable).
