Could you try setting the commissioning kernel to the "hwe" one, see if that makes a difference?

You can set it from Settings -> Commissioning -> Default minimum kernel version, setting one of the "hwe" ones.

Then try running commissioning again.

The commissioning kernel is configured to "bionic (hwe-18.04)".
After restarting the commissioning, the problem with detecting disks persisted.
Maybe the old version of smartmontool is used? Current version: smartd 6.6 2016-05-31 r4324 [x86_64-linux-4.15.0-74-generic] (local build)
As far as I know, the latest version 7.1 was released 2019-12-30

It doesn't seem to be an issue with smartd, but the kernel not detecting disks.

Does that controller need special drivers, maybe not included in the standard kernel?
