I created a bond on a diskless system and deployed 18.04. While the deployment succeeded no bond was created. The PXE interface gets the auto assigned IP address so I can login to the system. Running
netplan generate --debug
netplan apply --debug
returns 0 but doesn't change the network configuration of the system.
Running the following gives an error message
$ netplan generate --debug
$ netplan try --debug
bond0: reverting custom parameters for bridges and bonds is not supported
Please carefully review the configuration and use 'netplan apply' directly.
$ echo $?
78
Removing the parameters section allows netplan try to work but bonds are not setup. |
During ephemeral deployments and network validation testing MAAS boots into an Ubuntu ephemeral environment and applies user provided network configuration. Because the system is booting from the standard Ubuntu cloud image[1]. The system boots, cloud-init creates a stock DHCP network config, and MAAS applies custom network configuration when user_data is proceed by cloud-init.
While basic network configuration such as DHCP and setting a static IP address works, bonds[2] and aliases[3] never come up. Additionally netplan apply returns 0 so this is not detected as a failure.
netplan apply --debug gives no additional information
