Bug Description

MAAS 2.6.0 rc2
"Quick erase by default when erasing disks" does not work. My disks on all servers is completely wiped. It says in the description that it should wipe only the beginning and end of each disk.

Interesting lines from logfiles (/var/log/maas) is
2019-06-10T06:42:39+00:00 compute1 cloud-init[1785]: sda to be wiped.
2019-06-10T06:42:39+00:00 compute1 cloud-init[1785]: sda: started zeroing.
2019-06-10T06:48:38+00:00 compute1 cloud-init[1785]: sda: successfully zeroed.
2019-06-10T06:48:38+00:00 compute1 cloud-init[1785]: All disks have been successfully wiped.

Similar on all servers.

Observed a similar issues with maas 2.6.0-7802-g59416a869

Selecting multiple machines from the GUI and releasing results in full disk erase behavior. Machines need to be released one at a time to get quick erase to be used.

$ maas root maas get-config name=disk_erase_with_quick_erase
Success.
Machine-readable output follows:
true

$ maas root maas get-config name=enable_disk_erasing_on_release
Success.
Machine-readable output follows:
true

$ maas root maas get-config name=disk_erase_with_secure_erase
Success.
Machine-readable output follows:
false

Is this happening when releasing a machine from the UI or the API?

There seem to be an issue in the UI where default settings are not considered, both when releasing from the machine listing and from machine details page (checkboxes are all unset).

In the UI it seems settings are never considered in the machine listing page.
Clicking on a machine and selecting release from the details page, shows the correct settings.

Reloading the details page and selecting release always shows all settings to off.
