IP assignment for devices inconsistent with interfaces on nodes

Bug Description
on interfaces on nodes, we offer four modes for IP assignment:
- auto assign
- static assign
- DHCP
- unconfigured
on devices, we have
- [select IP assignment]
- external
- dynamic
- static
these concepts are quite hard to grasp for users, we should make sure we at least use them consistently.
I propose we change the options on devices to:
- DHCP
- auto assign
- static assign

is it possible to suggest one of these options be default, instead of having a "select IP assignment" placeholder?
