Bug Description

After doing some research, and discovering someone else with the same problem, I dived into tracing down why MaaS was unable to view CCISS disks.

The base problem, as I mentioned http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2256331 is that lshw can't understand cciss IOCTLs, and doesn't see them as SCSI disks.

As lshw is unlikely to write a new detection routine for EOL'ed (but still, with a massive install base) RAID controllers, wouldn't it be a better idea to allow an alternative method to detect HDDs (this could be a trivial script, or, use curtin's disk detection) and HDD sizes?

At the moment, this makes Launchpad and the Canonical Openstack build unusable, as it won't deploy as it can't see the disks.

Could we fix this by using your suggestion in bug 1402280?

I actually spoke with blake_r on IRC, and we did some quick python hacking and came up with a suitable HDD detector that works reliably.

I'm considering this one solved when it gets pushed.

There needs to be a bug lodged against Landscape, to stop it using lhsw output, after this gets resolved though
