Hmm, actually, this should not say "power on" if what it is triggering is an OS installation (or deployment).

Punting as I don't think this is a regression and having time to think about the right labels would help.

Kiko,

See attached for what I currently have (screenshots through the deployment process). I think it is more intuitive. If this doesn't at least suffice for the interim then we will need to wait until we get a majority consensus with everyone.

<kiko> newell, there is something weird in 3.png
<kiko> newell, because "Power off" should not be allowed when the node is "Ready", should it?
<kiko> newell, and in 5.png, why is "Delete Node" active if in 4.png it is not?
<kiko> newell, and in 6.png, normally "Deploy" causes the node to be left powered on. did you power it off manually?
<kiko> newell, I don't think so, because I see a "success: node is on" label there
<kiko> newell, and in 7, both power on and off are available
<kiko> so are they in 8

Can you explain what the logic the buttons follow here so I can try to understand it?

Are Power On/Off intended to always be allowed, regardless of the state of the node?

If so, won't that conflict with Blake's poweroff.c32 behaviour?

Kiko,

States for the buttons (currently):

Power off-- NODE_STATUS.DEPLOYED, NODE_STATUS.READY + FAILED_STATUSES

Power on-- NODE_STATUS.DEPLOYED

Deploy-- NODE_STATUS.ALLOCATED

We can easily change these as you seem to be confused why "Power off" in the ready state etc. (from your comment #4 above).

There has been significant discussion of Start/Stop terminology in bug #1311224. This may be outdated given recent changes to the MAAS UI, but it may be worth reviewing those comments before making more changes. I've marked that bug as a duplicate of this one, since this one's seen development work.

Please don't change the power-off being available in the Ready state, it's a
change I made a couple of weeks ago. (There's a bug somewhere)

To repeat my point, power control is *not* reliable, nor is power monitoring.
The admin needs to be able to power off a node (or at least issue a command to
do one) if they think the node's power is on when it shouldn't be.

Here's another maas newbie. I mistakenly thought "start node" meant just that. But a fresh install was deployed, instead.

Could you reconsider changing button's description and show an alert when clicking on it for user to think twice about the action?

Using MAAS version 1.5.4+bzr2294-0ubuntu1.1.

Thanks,
-Alvaro.

We decided in Miami that:

- Start should be renamed "Power on"
- Stop should be renamed "Power off"

- At the moment "Start" (available after commissioning, pre-deployment) performs two actions, powering the machine on and deploying. In this case the button should be named "Deploy"
