Bug Description

While our online documentation describes a clustered setup (with nice graphic) we do not actually document the installation/configuration.

https://maas.ubuntu.com/docs/quantal/orientation.html#a-typical-maas-setup

Additionally, we should do a better job to explain the terms "cluster" and "highly available" as they are mentioned in the context of subnets or per network pxe/dhcp handling and which is not acutal high availability. Do we a reference architecture for highly available region controllers? or is this purely for handling sub-nets?

sorry in advance if I am missing something obvious here.

thanks.

You're right, there's no reference setup documented. I've subscribed Nick, our tech writer, so he can comment. I think he's scheduled to add some more docs for this.

Some of this is addressed in the current documentation in the packages, but not online since the online docs haven't been updated since October (there is an ongoing RT for this)

I will review the stuff relating to HA though

Where in the packages are these docs located? maas and maas common only seem to have a changelog in the docs dir.

The latest changes are unreleased in Ubuntu, pending an SRU. They are in the PPA if you want to have a play:

It seems to me like this is still affecting our documentation, specifically http://maas.ubuntu.com/docs/development/cluster-registration.html

After further investigation, it seems like more complete documentation exists in <maas trunk checkout>/docs/configure.rst - perhaps a simple refresh of the docs at http://maas.ubuntu.com/docs/ would solve this?

That particular file is pretty up to date on the docs site. Which bit do you think is out of date?

BTW there are some other out of date site bits compared to the source tree but these are for features that are only in trunk. I want to add more to the docs to explain which versions you need to be running to get each feature before refreshing.
