Bug Description

From Astrid initially reporting:
This issue was initially identified and confirmed within the OSGeo-Live distribution, which is based upon Lubuntu 18.04. It is reported here: https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeolive/ticket/2074

when you run OSGeoLive builds with virtual box (without installation) it can happen, that you get stuck in a blue screen. Then it can help to type Right Ctrl F1 & Right Ctrl F7. But in some cases this does not help and you can't start OSGeoLive

the issue was tested with OSGeo-Live 12.0 alpha1 (2018-06-11) and http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/18.04/release/
Steps to reproduce

* Download http://aiolos.survey.ntua.gr/gisvm/12.0/
* create a virtual machine with virtual box (Linux/Ubuntu64 bit)
* start and choose the iso
* choose the language
* can see the screen Lubuntu 18.4
* but then the blue screen shows up and nothing else happens

From Cameron reproducing:
To clarify for external readers, the OSGeo-Live image we use is based upon Lubuntu 18.04, and I have been able to reproduce our problem with a raw Lubuntu 18.04 image, confirming this is an upstream issue with Lubuntu rather than an issue with OSGeo-Live (which is based on Lubuntu). Steps I've used:

* Host hardware is Macbook Air,
* Host operating system: macOS High Serera, version 10.13.5.
* Virtual Machine: VirtualBox? 5.2.12
* Client ISO image: lubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso
* From Virtual Box, boot from ISO
* Select "Try Ubuntu without installing"
* See some log messages
* See blue Ubuntu logo page
* briefly see a black page
* See a fuzzy blue page which appears to be the Lubuntu main page which hasn't been rendered correctly (you can move the mouse around and see corresponding movement on the page)
* Refer to https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeolive/ticket/2074#no1 for screenshots of this sequence.
