Bug Description
I've seen backups everywhere. /opt, /srv, /var/lib, etc.
FHS 2.3 specified the a backup directory /var/backup; which was never used or
consider as existent.
A formal backup location should be formalized and promoted as such.
Today, with btrfs's subvolumes; LVM2 or even with plain old linux partition
scheemes, it is feasible and desirable to have a /var/backup mountpoint and
have backup utilities point at it.
Anyway, it should be kept as part of the standard.
