That section defines the required directories in the /var tree. One of the
directories specified is /var/local. However, there is no addtional section
explaining what /var/local is to be used for, which files are to be placed
there. This information exists for every other directory specified for the /var
tree.
I am not the person to add this information, because i do not know the answer.
It was suggested on the mailing list that this directory was for /usr/local
related files.
A description of the purpose and rationale of the /var/local directory is
needed, for the FHS to be complete.
