Bug Description
The LSB needs to be modularized to support needs of various stake holders.
Distro providers:
Want a way to be LSB compliant but at the same time set up a server that does
not pull in all the toolkits and GUI things etc. Server applications that are
LSB compliant are not likely to need these GUI binaries anyway.
ISVs:
Can write an application that is LSB compliant/
subset of LSB interfaces. Creating a dependency on LSB requires the customer to
install many more libraries than are actually required to run the application.
At the LSB F2F in April 2012 it was decided to move forward with the
implementation of modularization for the LSB 5.0 release. The agreed upon
modularization proposal to be implemented can be found here:
