This is because this is the information that is pulled from LP. I don't believe that IRC nick is a required field on LP for us to be able to pull it 100% of the time. Also, it provides consistancy. The rest of LD uses LP usernames, so I would think that this should as well. We could possibly add a field for IRC nick next to the LP name.

How about if the nick is present in LP then use that?

It's not very consistant with the actual meetings. I use 'ebel' as an IRC nick, and 'rorymcc' as a launchpad name. If I'm chairing a meeting, then someone will wonder when 'rorymcc' will start chairing the meeting.

We don't currently pull in IRC nick from launchpad. It's possible to list multiple IRC nicks on multiple IRC networks, so it's not necessarily a simple thing to do either. I think we currently have a single field in UserProfiles for storing IRC nick.

Using IRC names in the dropdowns can be inconsstent, but its possible to add the IRC name (if available) between brackets after the LP username.

The IRC name can also be displayed on the detail page i guess
