Bug Description

Just as team, Venues are beginning to stack up and it is not very intuitive, maybe categorizing them by contintent/country. More visual elements like maps would also work

Once bug 570619 is fixed, shall we just re-use the LoCo's "category"?

Venue Creation is separate from organizing teams, I feel that even though it is not common th have people browse a list of venues, It would be more appropriate than having a big list. So I believe it would be much easier to group venues by country since there is a location field.

I do not see how the team list could make the venue list more organized

I think that linking venues to a single team, then listing them by team (which would result in mostly per-country groupings), would help. Also providing the ability to search/filter the venue list.

Mostly, though, people aren't going to be browsing the venue list too often, especially since they don't really contain any information besides location that would help someone select one for an event. Once we make the venue selection more intelligent on the Event pages, and allow for venues to be created from Event pages, the need for a separate Venues page will be drastically reduced.

IMHO this is quite broken: http://loco.ubuntu.com/events/global/16/detail/

It shows a long list of "events" many with the same or similar names which are unable to be identified by geographic location, even the country, let alone state or town. Or even which LoCo for that matter. This will make it very hard for people searching for stuff, or just browsing.

The URIs for the events are also not particularly friendly - i.e. no semantic data.

Alan: this bug is specifically about the need of venues to be categorised, ie to make a specific venue easier to find in the list of venues when creating an event. There's also bug 570619 for the categorisation of LoCo teams, ie: find a LoCo team near you more easily.

Additionally stating that "this is quite broken" is 1) not a really useful comment and 2) not quite motivating for people who spend their spare time on this project and 3) far from offering a useful way of solving this problem.

As these two categorisation bugs have been filed by developers of the application, we realise that things are suboptimal, but we also realise that they are a result of how the application grew by the demands.

If you have specific ideas how specific changes would make things easier in the future, we sure would appreciate that.

Apart from that, I think it's quite rude to fire (and probably forget) such a comment without even subscribing to the bug report.

I think we can just use the template tag "regroup" and group the actual venues by country. That very simple and i think it helps a lot. And there's no need for a db schema change.
