LMDE UP4
$ apt-get install enigmail
The following extra packages will be installed:
icedove
Needs a Mint package with thunderbird as the requires rather than icedove.

Same problem here on my LMDE2 installation.
enigmail has icedove as dependency,
in the standard installation of LMDE2 you get thunderbird as default email program,
if you install enigmail you get additional icedove, ...if you uninstall icedove, enigmail will be uninstalled too.
