Bug Description

I simply cannot use the system. I'll attach screen shots to show you.

This is a brand new install of the latest linux mint 12. I did updates, rebooted, and voila, it looks like crap.

I suppose you have an ATI graphic card, right ?
If that's the case, you can either try the drivers from AMD's website (but they will likely not be much better) or uninstall fglrx and use the open source driver, at least until version 12.1 of the Catalyst driver is available (AMD has announced that it should implement the fix for those issues).

Yes, it's an ATI. I removed the fglrx driver by doing this from gnome-terminal.

sudo apt-get remove --purge xorg-driver-fglrx fglrx*
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx libgl1-mesa-dri fglrx-modaliases
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

deXter on IRC ##linuxmint mention this.

oh, oops, I had to remove fglrx-modaliases from that, because it wasn't available on my system.
