LM12 Live DVD with ATI graphics not working

Bug Description
Cannot boot LM12 Live DVD to a working Desktop on an IBM ThinkPad R40 with ATI Radeon Mobility M6 LY graphics. I believe it is AKA ATI Mobility Radeon 7000.
Was able to boot other computers with the same LM12 Live DVD with no problems, but the IBM only displays 3 icons on the Desktop and momentarily flashes a bottom panel when it boots. At that point clicking on any of the three icons on the Desktop lock up the computer requiring it to be powered off and rebooted.
Ctrl-Alt-Bksp and selecting a different Desktop option results in the same problem.

Are you able to open a terminal ?
If so, what happens if you run "gnome-shell --replace" in it ? Any error messages ?
