Bug Description

When playing video's on Youtube on Firefox, after some time katya hangs completely, and the sound stutters ..

I can repeat the error, it's just a matter of time(min) ..

The only thing i can does is cut the power and turn back on my netbook, it's a Samsung NC10, and i can crash it with only Firefox running playing video's on Youtube ..

I forgot to tell that i run GNOME 32

And i managed a few times to take a snapshot, where i got a terminal like screen with lots of text on it, but still frozen...

Just now katya crashed with Firefox open, not playing Youtube video's, i had killed the plugin-container, so that flashplayer could not affect anything, i was playing a downloaded mp4 file when it happend ..

Just played a little around with Google Chrome, and out of the blue, Linux hangs again ..

And no youtube this time, just downloading a file, i managed to spot the dl speed slow falling, and suddenly Linux hung itself, can this be some internet connection thing, i use my iPhone 4 as modem ?? but have never had the problem before katya ..

Best regards
Carsten

I'm getting a memory leak as well
1G Ram, no swap.
FF often is the culprit
I have identical setups on my desktop and laptop
only the AMD desktop hangs, mem leaks

here's what I've been doing to halt the lockups.
login to a console ctrl-alt-f1
type in
killall firefox-bin
but don't hit enter (have it ready)
ctrl alt f7 back to the desktop
keep system monitor open and watch for slow creep of memory usage.
Surf away and if you hear the disk starting to thrash
ctrl-alt f1 at once
wait a few seconds
then hit enter
this will kill FF if you are not too late

Well, that's only a half solution for one of the reasons that katya has kernel panics ..

It is a kernel problem, i can crash katya in any different way now ..

I can do it just by playing videofiles or opening a pdf, but it's not every time katya panics, but the tethered iPhone is a sure way to do it ..
