Live USB made from linuxmint-10-lxde-cd-i386.iso does not boot

Bug Description

Downloaded the last LM 10 LXDE iso, put it onto USB stick via UNetbootin. So when I try to boot from it, it says:
"(initramfs) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system".

It was a SONY Vaio VPCX111KD netbook with Win7, Atom Z550, 2Gb, 64Gb SSD.

When I'm trying to boot with this stick on my DELL D610, everything is OK.

One more funny thing - Live USB with OpenSUSE on Sony gives almost the same message, but Puppy Linux boots just fine and works smoothly.

Try using the Ubuntu usb tools listed here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick . I had issues with mint/peppermint on my netbook if I used unetbootin instead of those.

Hope that helps.

Actually I've located the problem with this particular Vaio. It has PATA SSD, but Mint does not have the appropriate driver for it.

But where to get the needed driver and how to put the driver onto LiveUSB... I have no idea.

Can you paste the chipset info from lshw or a similar tool here so it can be built into the next release, if nothing else?

Thanks.

The needed driver is "pata_sch". How can I add it to the distro?

That's all I needed, it's been assigned to a dev to be added to the next release.

Not sure how to add it to the current distro short of downloading the kernel sources, compiling that driver against mint's kernel, and re-rolling the iso. Sorry I can't be more help. :(

Ok, anyway thanks for your help, Vikki!

Next release... You mean the next release after the LM11K_RC? Or it's going to be, if it's really going to be, in LM12?

BTW, found another distro which supports this VAIO out-of-the-box. It's Fedora.

I'm really not sure, I'll ask one of the devs tonight. :\ Actually having the name of the module *really* helps though, and should make its addition to Mint go along faster. :) Thanks again for looking into that. I'll ask around about when you can expect support and get back to you.
