Bug Description

As noted in the known bugs by Clem, LMDE doesn't uninstall the live-installer at this time located in /usr/bin/live-installer. This has the untoward side effect of preventing the mintupdate-launcher from launching mintUpdate.py. Examination of mintupdate-launcher shows that a test is performed to see if both ubiquity AND live-installer are NOT installed. If this is the case, it will run mintUpdate.py.

Since live-installer DOES exists, the test fails.

As a temporary work-around, I just renamed (I guess cold have deleted, too) live-installer with

sudo mv /usr/bin/live-installer /usr/bin/live-installer.original

Also to make this work, make sure that
$> ls -l /etc/linuxmint/mintUpdate.conf shows:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 49 Apr 10 18:09 mintUpdate.conf

Mine initially for some reason had these permissions:
-rw-r----- 1 root root 49 Apr 10 18:09 mintUpdate.conf

A quick

$> sudo chown o+r /etc/linuxmint/mintUpdate.conf

fixed my problem. Now mint update starts on login.

I personally like aptitude most of the time, but like to be notified when I have something needing updating.

Regards,
Narnie

Does this issue still exist in the latest LMDE release?
