Using LMDE 201101 32-bit, installation in Italian (Italy) with Italian keyboard, the installation succeeds.

Make sure you're connected to the Internet as the installer will try to fetch the Italian versions of Firefox and Thunderbird for you. Depending on your connection, this can take some time.

Also, please provide traces of the installer by running it in a terminal: "sudo live-installer".

I have had the same experience when trying to install it English - United Kingdom. I ended up installing the default and it worked fine.

I have got the same problem with a downloaded installer from October 2011. Changing keyboard and timezone is fine, but localization breaks the installer at "localizing firefox and thunderbird"

Confirming this bug using the LMDE october 2011 version.

I switched to German and Installtion hangs up while "Localizing Firefox and Thunderbird". Workaround is:

1. Starting another instance of the live installer using the terminal typing:
# sudo live-installer

2. This somehow makes the first instance to continue the installation.

3. Simply close the second instance.

This happened to me with LMDE 64-bit in German. I had downloaded it just yesterday. The workaround suggested in #4 works.

Also, after the install thunderbird and firefox didn't work. Updating solved the problem.

I can confirm this behaviour for a fresh LMDE 64-bit UP4 installation from USB (German MATE environment used, mate). Also an update to UP5 does not help (including installation of mate meta packages after UP5 is applied).

Also affected,
using linuxmint-201204-mate-cinnamon-dvd-32bit.iso in VirtualBox, en_UK locale selected (suggested: German).

Workaround in #4 helped, I think, though it took a while.

Can confirm that bug is still present in 201303-mate-dvd-64bit.iso.

Tried installing it with german locale and it hung at localizing LibreOffice.

Workaround from #4 did not work for me.

Installing with original locale went smoothly.

This is not actually a hang

In the live environment, start a terminal, then run

gksudo /usr/bin/live-install

You'll have the logging in the background as the installer runs. (this is the same command as the one run by the desktop shortcut)

Notice that when it's "hanging" on localization, you'll find that actually it's downloading a load of libre-office debs - but this is not being reported in the UI.

---> this is a UI feedback issue. probably want to allow a log screen in the installer.
