Bug Description

I've recently installed LMDE. It's difficult to configure GNOME to use firefox because it doesn't provide a template. It should provide a template which enables the new window/tab options etc.

Hi, thanks for reporting this issue!

Could you please clarify whether you mean an absence of .desktop
files or the gnome-www-browser alternative alias?

LMDE:

OK Ikey, I was going to report a new bug, but I found someone else having this issue also - it seems like.

I want Firefox to open when I press an URL-link in an email. I don't want Debians defalt browser!
I tried to change that in "Preferred programs" (I am not quite sure if this is its origin name because I only have the Swedish translation). In "Preferred programs" I can select between Opera, Chromium and Epiphany but I cant choose Firefox although it is installed from the beginning... ?

That's the error, the Firefox alternative is missing.

The file

/usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop

distributed with

Package: firefox
Priority: optional
Section: web
Installed-Size: 28436
Maintainer: Clement Lefebvre <email address hidden>
Architecture: i386
Version: 9.0.1-1linuxmint1

contains the entry

MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml+xml;application/xml;application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;application/rss+xml;application/rdf+xml;image/gif;image/jpeg;image/png;

which is missing the all important x-scheme-handler for http and https

This prevents Firefox being presented as an option in gnome-control-center

System Info -> Default Applications -> Web

drop down menu.

Therefore add

x-scheme-handler/http;x-scheme-handler/https;

to the end of the MimeType entry, viz

MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml+xml;application/xml;application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;application/rss+xml;application/rdf+xml;image/gif;image/jpeg;image/png;x-scheme-handler/http;x-scheme-handler/https;
