Bug Description

hi people,
I want to inform you, that there is an error in the current update in LinuxMint Debian. The problem is, that pidgin-data fails to update, because of this error:

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/pidgin-data_2.7.9-1_all.deb:
try to overwrite /usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/protocols/22/facebook.png,
which is also in the package pidgin-facebookchat 1.67.1-1

This is the cause, why pidgin-data won't be updated. And this in turn causes the problem, that the update won't complete and ends up with this error-message:
libpurple0: depends on pidgin-data (>=2.7.9) but 2.7.3-1+squeeze1 is installed
pidgin: depends on pidgin-data (>=2.7.9) but 2.7.3-1+squeeze1 is installed

To fix this, you first need to fix the first error-message. When this is fixed up, then pidgin-data will update and this will solve the whole problem. This problem is already known in the ubuntubased version, where I already had reported the same thing. There the error is already fixed. Now we have this same thing here in LinuxMint Debian.

I enclose also the screenshot of this error.

Greetings

hi Jimmy,
this bug is already fixed. The developers have updated pidgin. I found out, that you need to do the following steps:

first go to your Synaptic, there you completely uninstall piding. Then close your Synaptic.

Then open your terminal and enter the following codes:

sudo apt-get update (let it run through completely) and afterwards enter this code:

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade (let it also run through completely). Then close your terminal and go back to your Synaptic.

There you reinstall pidgin again and voilá, problem is solved and pidgin reinstalls clearly and smooth.

It should not require a full dist-upgrade. The package in question is pidgin-facebookchat, which is erroring. You can solve this issue by removing pidgin, libpurple0, and pidgin-data. Update. Then reinstall pidgin with the new version.

Justin
