No way to tweak multi-finger tap reaction

Bug Description

LMDE suffers from the same bug as Ubuntu:

This actually is upstream Gnome bug (linked in Ubuntu bugreport), and they don't seem too eager to fix it. Ubuntu users can use Yuri Khan's PPA to fix the problem. LMDE users don't have that option.

The patches are available (see Ubuntu bugreport). Perhaps, LMDE could have a patched gnome-settings-daemon until Gnome finally fixes things?

Hi, thank you for reporting this issue!

I've marked this as triaged due to the patch already being available.
We would have to assess the demand of finger-tap settings in gnome
and then test the functionality and stability of the patch within LMDE.

Thank you for taking the time to contribute to Linux Mint.

As for stability of the patch, I've been using it for mor than a year on Ubuntu without a slightest problem, but obviously the more testing the better.

As for demand, right now the only way to change this setting is through xinput, which is far from user-friendly. Seeing as how most laptops come with 2 hardware buttons on touchpad, and no middle button, and the default 3-finger tap is much harder to perform than 2-finger tap, the option would'n hurt indeed — having in mind the usefulness of middle button in Linux.
