Bug Description

Hi,
Firefox (3.6.8-1linuxmint2) and Thunderbird (3.1.1-1linuxmint1) are checking for updates automatically. This should be disabled because they are provided by package management and therefore cannot be updated from other (upstream) sources.

Especially thunderbird displays often dialogs that new version was found but could not be updated. This is annoying.

In Debian iceweasel and icedove versions there are app.update.enabled keys in about:config locked and set to false. And there are no "Check for updates" items in "Help" menu .

Cheers,
Petr

I think it would be better if this were treated as a security bug. Basically, it means that Mint users are vulnerable because they are not up-to-date with the latest security patches.
